The entire first half can be whittled down like this: comedy scene, romantic scene, bar song, comedy scene, romantic song, comedy scene, emotional scene, bar song. We get something resembling a plot only after the interval, and it is just a superficial one, and has to do with the heroine’s family problems – there is no father, there is no money but there is a blind sister. And, it is also tone deaf. Well, you get the drift.

Movie Review: Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiyaa is very much a film from the 1990s. The problem is that it hews closer to the dreary ones from the decade. Concepts like narrative are given a pass, and the film goes on for almost three hours. We don’t even get a formula.
